Ok I actually have more than one thing to say, and the remainder is regarding what Rustbot-related work I accomplished over said 3-day weekend. I feel like I achieved quite a large degree of work, but at the same time I feel like I got nowhere. Maybe it will help appease my self-doubting mind if I list what I accomplished this weekend. Let's see, I...
- ... designed and wrote a better object-handling class
- ... added a core model class
- ... wrote a save file loader
- ... worked on aesthetics (land textures)
- ... wrote an importer for the AC3D model format for objects (exported from Blender3d)
- ... added the in-game pause menu
- ... added a skybox
All this while my girlfriend attempted to distract me by playing Dragon Age on the couch next to me*.
So I guess that does appear to be a decent amount. Couple it with all the chores and errands that required attention this weekend and it's not so shabby. During the week I intend to (again) incorporate Bullet Physics. After that, I'm thinking of implementing a save feature, followed by an inventory screen and the ability to connect objects via a variety of joint types. Not long after that, I'll be ready to release an alpha version before PAX East. w00t!
*Speaking of which, I'm so proud! Note, however, that she wasn't actually trying to distract me. She decided to play Dragon Age of her own volition when I described it as "the goriest dating sim ever", and her playing tended to distract me simply by virtue of Dragon Age being awesome and hard to not watch. She's leaving Redcliffe for the Magi Tower to save Connor Eamon, 10 hours in.
